With improvements in technology, we've come to depend on the internet to complete daily tasks such as bill paying, obtaining news and not to mention performing at work. If your PC can't connect to the internet. It can feel like the end of the world for some. However, for most casual PC users, its an irritation. Most people have found themselves puzzled over a sudden interruption in connectivity. This article hopes to give you a few reasons why you cant connect to the internet and quick solutions to get you back online.

It's important to establish why you can't connect to the internet. Checking to see if your computer or device has an internet connection is your first step. This can be done by looking at the connection icon located in your Windows task bar. With a wireless connection, this is usually indicated by a series of bars. If you are using a data line or phone line, you will see a computer screen with the phone cord icon. Both these are located in the task bar. If there is no connection, check your network settings.

If you see that an X symbol between your network and the internet, it's safe to say that you aren't connected to the internet. Using Windows' troubleshooting application can provide possible reasons why there isn't access to the internet. The application will provide you with vital information on what steps need to be taken to get back online. Here are the common reasons why you can't connect to the internet and quick solutions:

ISP Problems

The lack of connectivity may not be your PC's fault. The problem may lie with your internet service provider (ISP). You should call your ISP's customer service to find out why the service is down.

Hardware Problems

This is easily one of the most common reasons for no internet access. If you are using a modem or router, make sure they are plugged in correctly. Double check the data line. Is it firmly secured into the all entry points? If your internet displays a warning that indicates there is no dial tone or cable service on the line, check for warning lights on hardware or modem. Switching the modem or device off briefly could remedy the problem. Also, check other devices that are connected to the internet. If those devices, such as your TV or a video game console still have internet service, the problem can be limited to the device in question.

Software Problems.

Sometimes your computer can't connect to the internet due to software problems. This usually occurs due to your software device drivers. Software drivers are like an intermediary that provides a way for Windows to properly communicate with your hardware. Check to see that there is a problem with your modem's driver. To check your drivers, you will need to open up your device manager.

1. Click Start and then choose Control Panel.
2. Choose System and Maintenance, then click Device Manager.

Once you are in the device manager, check your modem's driver. If there is an warning sign, you may need to update the driver. You can do this by right clicking the driver and choosing to update the driver software. If you need specific help for updating drivers, check out the link below.

Sometimes you try to load your homepage using a browser and it doesn't load. This may not be a problem on your end. Make sure you check other pages to see if that particular websites server is down.

What Do You Mean by Quality?

When I talk with business owners about their product or service offerings or their company vision and values, I often hear them speak about quality. They say things like:

"We offer quality products"
"Quality is important to us"
"We're known for our quality"

When I ask them what they mean by the word "quality," they get stuck. I think this has become a word whose meaning is so assumed by everyone that it's become hard to define.

What Do You Mean by Quality?

To some, quality means their business manufactures parts that don't break apart right out of the box or that they work the first time they're used. To others, quality refers to flawless workmanship in installation or using cost effective materials that stand up over time. Others yet may point to their comprehensive training content, their healthy and locally grown food offerings, or their perfectly aligned printed materials.

Reasonable companies don't set out to sell products that don't work, don't fit, or fall apart during the first year of (normal) use. Warranties are supposed to make us consumers feel assured that manufacturers stand behind their work.

And besides, doesn't EVERYONE offer quality goods and services?

So what does "quality" really mean? Quality can be defined as fitness for use, meeting customer requirements, and freedom from deficiencies (1). In other words, quality is defined by the customer by meeting or exceeding their requirements.

Juran defines quality as satisfying customers through quality of design and quality of conformance (2).

Quality of design centers around meeting the changing needs of customers and markets. These include product features and options as well as service offerings. We know that consumer tastes change over time and demand can be fickle. Just look at the evolution of the cellular phone market. There was a time when we were just happy to have cordless mobile phones so we could make calls while on the go. Now we have features such as text messaging, calendars, ring-tone selections, speakerphones, cameras, and tip calculators that used to be options but are now capabilities included in about all cell phone offerings. More recent options include internet access, music downloads, and a myriad of applications. It's an ever-evolving list.

Quality of conformance requires a reduction in scrap, customer warranty claims and complaints, rework, repairs and other costs associated with failures. Freedom from deficiencies can result in significant reduction in costs. Cost reductions can mean more profit for the producer and/or lower sales prices for the customer.

Rework is expensive whether we're talking about re-machining a component that doesn't fit, troubleshooting a circuit that didn't work right, repairing broken web site links or fixing spelling errors in a marketing brochure that went to print. The service provider eats these costs and the customer is quite likely to become unhappy if there are on-going or recurring problems. Customers don't like to be the ones to find errors and problems in their purchases. And when there's a broad-scale manufacturer recall, everyone takes a hit in cost, convenience, and confidence: witness the auto industry and, by way of continuous "critical updates and service packs," the software industry.

On a personal note, my dishwasher has lasted for over 16 years. It's never been a problem appliance for me. Are there faster, quieter machines out there with more capacity? Sure. But I have no complaints for what I paid for it. On the other hand, the connector on my cell phone car charger cable broke apart after one year. Am I happy? No. Why should something that I don't use that often fall apart under normal use after one year? Whether this is a design or manufacturing defect or one of those "random, low-probability of occurrence" situations, I couldn't say. The phone seller replaced the charger cable at no charge to me, which is what I would have expected them to do but my impression of their charger quality is poor.

So in the end, quality is about what the customer wants and expects and how your business, as the product or service provider, delivers on that. I recall an old adage from my days as a design engineer - you can't inspect in quality, you need to design it in. In other words, you can't rely on inspections to catch failure-prone design problems. If your system for developing and delivering products or services is flawed, inspections or reviews won't catch every defect. In my opinion, your best bet is to have a solid, reliable way to ensure that you understand customer wants and expectations and be able to deliver on those. That's quality.

Never underestimate the power of a good color. When it comes to deciding on a color to paint your teen room give some thought to your favorite colors and the feelings you attach to them.

A fun way to select a room color is to toss your favorite clothes on your bed and then put them together in outfits. By doing this you're also giving yourself some personal color ideas for painting your bedroom. What Color Should I Paint My Teen Room?

A good teen room color should reflect positive emotions - you want to create a cool and cosy space that you feel like hanging around in instead of running from.

Once you have a favorite color in mind, consider the many shade variations the color has. One of the best ways to this is to go to a paint store pick up a variety of paint chips in your favorite color and then give some thought to the emotions each shade brings about.

Paint colors can be broken down into three main groups. The first are those which stimulate and are uplifting. The second group of colors give off a feeling of calm and relaxation. Harmony and balance wraps up the third group.

A color like a bright orange can make you feel alive and energetic while a toned down warmer shade of orange can make you feel secure and positive. A blend of the two orange shades in a teen room works well. For instance, a warm orange on your walls with a bolder, more coppery orange as an accent color on one wall and in accessory items, would work well.

The effects of colors often extend beyond the emotional to the physical.

A general rule of thumb, when contemplating what color to paint your teen room is that lighter shades work better overall and have a tendency to give small rooms (which most teen bedrooms are) a more spacious and open feel.

Darker shades are best used as an accent color or to reduce the size of a large teen room. Another important factor to consider is that darker shades are much harder to paint over when it comes time to redecorate.

It has also been my experience that a softer shade of a favorite color has more staying power than darker shades which people have a tendency to tire of quicker.
